ABUSE-who?

Did you know that abuse can happen to anyone? It doesn’t matter if you are male or female. It doesn’t matter what color you are. It doesn’t matter what your religious, political, sexual preference is. It doesn’t matter if you are rich or poor. Abuse can happen to anyone. It can be your sister or brother, your father or mother, a neighbor. It is all around us. And yet, we seem to be blind to it. Why?

If your son or daughter were to meet an abused person, would you know if they never told you?
Do you know the signs to look for in an abused person?

I was abused. I know, it’s shocking. I mean, I own a home, I have 2 dogs, 2 cats, 3 children and (so far) 4 grandchildren. WOW! How could someone function after being abused? Well, I just did. I had children to consider. Oh and yes, they witnessed more than their share of my abuse. I didn’t realize the impact it would have on them. I mean, they are little, they’d forgot. WRONG! They know! They remember! OH MY!

According to the Safehorizon.org website,
* 1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime
* men are victims of nearly 3 million physical assaults in the USA.
* More than 3 million children witness domestic violence in their homes every year.

Most Domestic Violence Victims DO NOT REPORT the abuse. Why? Let me tell you why.
I never reported it because I was told I would get it worse, I would lose my children, they would hurt my children, the list goes on and on. I believed it. I was so “brain washed” into thinking that I was not good enough, strong enough, smart enough; that I stayed. It was familiar, I knew what to expect. I didn’t know the future without the abuse. I didn’t know.

I was alone. No one would understand. I would be judged. No one could possibly know what I am going through.

All these thoughts and more kept me where I was, in an abused relationship.

I don’t want you to be that way, to feel that way. You are NOT ALONE! I understand. I believe in you. You are always welcome to contact me, talk to me. It’s not easy. I won’t lie to you and say it is, because it’s not. But it will be worth it. That I promise you. I’m here if you need someone to talk to. Someone who would understand. Someone who would not judge you. I am here!

I promise to be your light to brighten your path. Just reach out. I’ll be here.

You are loved. You are worthy. You are more than you’ll realize!
